Remember, we are more than one archetype. If you haven’t read my information about archetypes, please read this first.
Lovers can have aspects of many of the archetypes in them, but mainly they just Love! They love you, and they want to be loved. They’re not afraid to ask for physical attention and they’ll pester you until they get it. On the flip side, they’ll offer you the same thing, and sometimes it’s hard to tell if they’re more interested in being the loved or the lover. They really like the connection, be it with a person or another animal.
For this reason, many lovers get anxious or depressed when left alone for long periods. The definition of the time period will vary from animal to animal, but rest assured once you get home, they will attempt to make up for lost time if you are their object of affection. Two of my cats have strong lovers in them and even though it’s not their primary archetype I’m gone enough that at least one of them is constantly asking for me to carry, pet or hold them! I can’t sit down without finding a cat on my lap.
If you’re gone a lot it may be helpful to have someone check in during the day and provide some love. Selective lovers may need time to get used to different people, but it’s well worth the sanity of your animal to look into it.
I’ve known animals that have the job to simply be the love center of a home. The center where the “crazy” stops and a few moments of peace and love restore people to normal. It might be helpful to encourage a timid lover this way, as it really does help everyone feel better.
Lovers almost unanimously appreciate their home and people. If they’re able to do their job of love, they are happy.
As you might imagine, lovers are great companions for people that don’t feel loved. They can be employed to help draw shy kids out or bring disenfranchised people back to a place of home. Within reason and the comfort of the animal, of course.
Lovers are loyal, so pay attention if you or someone else is overstepping boundaries and putting your lover in danger.
If you happen to have a lover come into your life that was abandoned or lost, take a little extra care to let them know they are in their new forever home. There can be a lot of confusion when an animal is dedicated to someone and then suddenly they lose them. Assure the animal they are loved and it wasn’t their fault – something we all need to know sometimes!
That’s how we are, and that’s how the animals are, different archetypes emerging at different times. Pay attention to the strongest qualities that your animal shows, and remember to play up or down the different qualities as needed.
