I want to take a quick break from the Archetype series to talk about Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping.

Why tap? Tapping removes blocks. It’s a way to move forward in your life without emotional baggage keeping you down.

It’s great for:
– Anxiety
– Fear
– Grief
– Trauma
– Discomfort
– Aggression
– Just about Everything!

I often use Tapping with both human and animal clients, so I want to give a little background on it, and include a couple of visuals. This won’t tell you how to tap on your own, but give you an overview of it.

There is a lot of science behind EFT that the scientist in me would love to thoroughly discuss here, but the fact is you don’t need to know it in order to take advantage of EFT. The short science is this: undesirable or “negative” emotions get stuck in our energy system usually due to trauma, big or small, emotional or physical. These create blocks that can manifest in any number of ways – ways that we would consider undesirable such as stress, pain, anxiety or many other emotional or physical symptoms. We can clear these blocks by tapping on the meridians in which they live. These are the same energy meridians used by acupuncturists for thousands of years, but you still get the benefit without needles!
(If you want to know more about the science of Tapping, email me! I’d love to talk more about it!)

What does this mean to you? This means we find the phrasing that creates discomfort for you and then we literally tap with our fingers on one of several meridians while repeating those phrases! Sounds simple, and it is. As we unravel one layer of emotion, sometimes more are hiding underneath, and that’s okay, then we tap on that. These phrases are typically called “scripts” and they are personalized for you and your issue only. We can benefit by tapping with someone else on their script but it often doesn’t get as deep as our own personal issue.

There are many meridians in the body and I typically focus on nine of them, however if there is an issue that doesn’t want to budge, we might do as many as 19 meridians.

Below are the points I typically use, as shown in Women’s Health magazine.

Animals are similar, but sometimes we need to be creative – for example, you don’t want to be tapping on a head-shy or aggressive dog, so we have ways around that. I have two cats that love to be tapped on, so I work on them quite easily. Below, Roxy models the usual tapping points for animals.

Do animals need EFT? Sometimes, yes. Perpetually fearful, anxious and aggressive animals all do well with an EFT session, as well as other common problems.

Being an EFT practitioner is truly one of my favorite things to do! It’s such a quick easy way for so many people to move through issues that have bothered them for years. Contact me and let’s talk about getting unstuck!
