But there are also many more dogs deserving of recognition on this special day:http://ceoec.ru/

George Washington, known for the love of his hounds – whom had names like Sweet Lips and TrueLove – once called a cease fire during the Revolutionary War in order to return British General William Howe’s little terrier that had become lost on the battlefield.  Imagine being a soldier on the battlefield, under cease-fire, and seeing an aide taking a dog from Washington’s tent to the British commanders tent!

It is suggested that Franklin Roosevelt’s “Fala Speech” helped secure him the election.  He went on a rant after being accused of spending taxpayer money on retrieving his forgotten dog “Fala” on the Aleutian Islands. He said “you can criticize me, my wife and my family, but you can’t criticize my little dog!” Amen, leave the animals out of it!

People claim Herbert Hoover won the election due to his photograph with police dog “King Tut”, who admittedly is a very handsome dog.

There are many, many stories, but lets get to the party – how to celebrate Pets in Politics Day!

Presidents:

George W. Bush

Jimmy Carter

Gerald Ford

Barack Obama

Bill Clinton

Ronald Reagan

George H. W. Bush

Pets:

Liberty – Golden Retriever

Barney -Scottish Terrier

Socks (okay, a cat)

Lewis Brown – Afghan Hound

Bo – Portuguese Water Dog

Rex  – Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Millie – Springer Spaniel

Last, but not least, have fun!  Maybe  head to the dog park and organize a doggy debate, they seem to be naturals for that!

What are some other ideas you have to celebrate?
